Thoughts on Psalm 57

Thoughts on Psalm 57

Psalm 57 was written by David.  He was in hiding from Saul.  Can you imagine the fear that David had in knowing the power and strength of Saul?  Yet, he knew Whom to run too!  May I be that brave and strong when I am fearful.

I finished with the book of Proverbs, yesterday.  If you are following along, you finished too, so HIGH FIVE to whoever is reading with me!  I can’t decide if I’m going to just finish out Psalm (there are a lot to go since I believe I started on Psalm 26) alone.  Honestly, I may occasionally add in another book.  We shall see.

Psalm 57

Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy!
I look to you for protection.
I will hide beneath the shadow of your wings
    until the danger passes by.
I cry out to God Most High,
to God who will fulfill his purpose for me.
He will send help from heaven to rescue me,
    disgracing those who hound me.
My God will send forth his unfailing love and faithfulness.

I am surrounded by fierce lions
who greedily devour human prey—
whose teeth pierce like spears and arrows,
and whose tongues cut like swords.

How many times, in your life, have you felt like lions were fixing to devour you?  For me?  More times than I can count.  People are not nice.  Luckily, I try to surround myself with positive people, but you know some wolves in sheep’s clothing do show up occasionally.

Sometimes, I am oblivious.  Sadly, however, most times I’m not.  I guess I think I can change the person or behaviors of another person.  How stupid is that?  You can’t change anyone and I can’t.  The only Person who can change the heart of another is Jesus, Himself.

My “Bent”

I am drawn to those whom no one wants to be around.  The loud ones, dirty, foul-mouthed, not dressed properly, physical/mental differences, crazy, etc.  Give me the giant scary man that is tattooed from stem to sternum any day of the week.  Those people are my jam.

I have such a love for these people.  It is intense.  My few friends range from atheist to “priest” and I love them all in between.  I want to learn how they think, how they love, how they cope with life.  Different perspectives from different lifestyles.  In the thick of life, I *know* these people will be in my corner.

In the End

He is ALWAYS in your corner.  Thankfully, He is your Defender and Stronghold.  I’m so thankful that when man fails, He never fails.  That knowledge does give me peace, though I do still try and handle it on my own.

Doesn’t work out very well for me.

Section 2

Be exalted, O God, above the highest heavens!
May your glory shine over all the earth.

My enemies have set a trap for me.
    I am weary from distress.
They have dug a deep pit in my path,
but they themselves have fallen into it.

My heart is confident in you, O God;
    my heart is confident.
No wonder I can sing your praises!
Wake up, my heart!
Wake up, O lyre and harp!
I will wake the dawn with my song.
I will thank you, Lord, among all the people.
I will sing your praises among the nations.
10 For your unfailing love is as high as the heavens.
Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.

11 Be exalted, O God, above the highest heavens.
May your glory shine over all the earth.
