New Beginnings: The End of One Chapter, the Start of Another

New beginnings.

They carry a quiet kind of hope—soft, steady, and full of promise. Today is the last day of June, and with it comes a shift. This is the final post I will write about our journey with Opsoclonus Myoclonus Syndrome (OMS). It’s not the end of the story, but it is the closing of a long and winding chapter—one that has shaped us in more ways than I can count.

Eight years ago, our lives were forever changed when my son was diagnosed with OMS. Everything I thought I knew about parenting, about faith, about strength—was redefined in those early days of chaos and uncertainty. We were thrown into a world of specialists, treatments, therapies, and questions with no easy answers. But through it all, one thing remained constant: God’s faithfulness.

There were moments I didn’t think I could keep going. Moments of fear so deep, it took my breath away. But my son—my precious warrior—kept fighting. And because he never gave up, neither did I.

Today, he is alive. That alone is a miracle and testimony to God’s mercy and power. He still has struggles, and we don’t know what his future holds. But we rest in this truth:

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a future and a hope.”
—Jeremiah 29:11

We cling to that promise. God has a plan for my son—a plan far greater than anything we could imagine. And so we move forward with hope.

I pray that as you’ve read these posts, you’ve learned something new—not just about OMS, but about compassion. If you ever see a parent struggling with a child’s behavior, please pause before judging. You never know the battles being fought behind tired eyes and brave smiles. Offer grace. Show kindness. Pray for them.

I also pray you’ve seen my heart through this journey. God’s goodness broke and rebuilt my heart. A heart that never stopped hoping—even when the world said there was none.

“Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful.”
—Hebrews 10:23

My son is more than a diagnosis. He is a living, breathing miracle. A warrior. And one day, I believe his test will become a powerful TESTimony—pointing others straight to Jesus.

This is not the end. It’s just the beginning of something new. A new chapter filled with purpose, promise, and hope.

To God be the glory. Always.

Life is Like a Camera

Life Is Like a Camera: Keep Taking Shots

Life has a funny way of teaching us lessons, often in the most unexpected ways like thinking Life is Like a Camera. One of my favorite metaphors is this:

“Life is like a camera. Just focus on what’s important, capture the good times, develop from the negatives, and if things don’t work out, just take another shot.”

Simple, yet so powerful.

Focus on What’s Important

Just like in photography, clarity comes when we adjust our focus. Life is full of distractions—opinions, worries, setbacks—but what truly matters? Family, love, purpose, kindness, faith. When we keep our eyes on these things, everything else fades into the background.

Capture the Good Times

There are beautiful moments all around us, but we have to be intentional about seeing them. Pause. Be present. Appreciate the laughter, the milestones, the small victories. These are the snapshots of life that we’ll cherish forever.

Develop from the Negatives

A photo doesn’t appear instantly—it has to be developed. And sometimes, the negatives in life hold the greatest lessons. Challenges shape us, failures teach us, and pain refines us. Growth happens in the dark, but in time, we see how even the hardest moments contribute to the bigger picture.

Take Another Shot

Not every picture turns out the way we hope. Sometimes, things get blurry. Sometimes, we miss the moment. But life, like photography, gives us unlimited chances. If things don’t go as planned, take another shot. Start over. Adjust the angle. Try again.

Every click of the shutter is a reminder that life keeps moving, and so should we.

It is Never Too Late to Be What You Might Have Been

It Is Never Too Late to Be What You Might Have Been

George Eliot once wrote, “It is never too late to be what you might have been.” Simple words, yet they carry a depth of hope and possibility that speaks to all of us—especially those who feel stuck, lost, or that their dreams have slipped away.

I’ve often found myself reflecting on this idea, especially in the moments when life has felt like a series of detours rather than a straight path. As a therapist, a special needs mom, an adoption advocate, and just a human navigating the beautiful mess of life, I’ve learned that the “right time” rarely announces itself. Sometimes, we have to create it.

The Myth of “Too Late”

There’s this unspoken rule society tries to sell us: if you haven’t achieved certain things by a certain age, you’ve missed your chance. Whether it’s a career move, personal growth, healing, or a long-held dream. We convince ourselves that the window of opportunity has closed. But who set those timelines? And why do we believe them?

I’ve met people who went back to school in their 50s, parents who found new passions after raising their children, and individuals who started over after devastating losses. The common thread? They refused to let the fear of being “too late” define their futures.

The Courage to Begin Again

Reinvention takes courage. Whether you’re shifting careers, mending relationships, prioritizing your mental health, or embracing a calling that’s been whispering to you for years—beginning again is an act of bravery. It requires letting go of the past, shaking off the weight of “what ifs,” and stepping into a space of possibility.

It doesn’t have to be drastic. Small steps matter. Writing that first page, making that first phone call, saying “yes” to yourself for once—these are the sparks of transformation.

Permission to Grow

We are allowed to change. To evolve. To rewrite our stories as many times as necessary. If you feel like you’ve been waiting for a sign to step into the life you’ve always wanted, let this be it. You are not behind and you are not stuck. Honestly, you are becoming.

Because, truly, it is never too late to be what you might have been.

How to Live Life

How to Live Life

Live Life Like It’s Always Spring: Renewed and Refreshed

Spring is a season of renewal, a time when the world awakens from the quiet slumber of winter. Flowers bloom, trees bud, and the air is filled with the promise of new beginnings. What if we chose to live our lives as if it were always spring—embracing renewal, growth, and a fresh start every day?

Embracing a Renewed Mindset

Spring is a reminder that no matter how harsh the winter, new life will emerge. We, too, can adopt this mindset in our daily lives. Let go of past failures, regrets, and worries. Each morning is a fresh opportunity to grow, to learn, and to thrive. Instead of dwelling on what went wrong, focus on what can go right.

Renewal starts with perspective. Just as nature sheds the old to make way for the new, we must release what no longer serves us. Forgive, heal, and allow yourself the grace to move forward.

Refreshing Your Soul

Spring refreshes the earth with rain and sunshine, washing away the cold remnants of winter. In the same way, our souls need refreshment. Seek out what fills you with joy and peace. Whether it’s a quiet moment with God, a walk in nature, or time spent with loved ones, make space for what renews your spirit.

Let gratitude be your rain—nourishing your heart and mind. When we focus on the blessings around us, life feels lighter and more vibrant. A thankful heart is a refreshed heart.

Growing into Your Best Self

Flowers don’t rush their bloom—they grow steadily, reaching for the sun. We, too, are meant to grow at our own pace. Personal growth takes time, patience, and nurturing. Invest in yourself, develop your passions, and surround yourself with people who encourage your journey.

Allow yourself to embrace change rather than fear it. Just as the seasons transition seamlessly, we can trust that growth and transformation are part of life’s design.

Living with an Open Heart

Spring invites us to open our windows, breathe in fresh air, and embrace the beauty around us. Live life with that same openness. Love freely, give generously, and approach each day with curiosity and wonder. When we live with open hearts, we create space for joy, connection, and new possibilities.

Steps to Keep Spring in Your Life Year-Round

  1. Start Fresh Daily – Each day is a new beginning. Leave yesterday behind and embrace today.
  2. Seek Renewal – Find what refreshes your soul and make time for it.
  3. Cultivate Gratitude – Focus on the beauty around you and the blessings in your life.
  4. Grow with Grace – Allow yourself to evolve without pressure or comparison.
  5. Live with Open Arms – Be open to love, kindness, and new opportunities.

Bloom Where You Are Planted

No matter the season, you have the power to bring renewal and refreshment into your life. Live each day like it’s spring—full of hope, new possibilities, and a heart ready to bloom.

Keep Moving Forward

Keep Moving Forward and You Will Never Have a Reason to Look Back

Life has a way of throwing challenges in our path. Some obstacles leave scars—both seen and unseen. The weight of the past can feel overwhelming, making it tempting to dwell on what was, what could have been, or the pain we’ve endured. But true growth happens when we shift our focus from what’s behind us to what lies ahead.

Why Moving Forward Matters

Looking back too often keeps us stuck. Regret, guilt, and fear can act as chains that hold us in place, preventing us from embracing the future. But when we choose to move forward, we give ourselves permission to heal, to grow, and to discover new possibilities that we never imagined.

How to Keep Moving Forward

Accept the Past – Acknowledge what has happened, but don’t let it define you. ✔ Forgive Yourself and Others – Carrying resentment only weighs you down. ✔ Set New Goals – Focus on what excites and motivates you. ✔ Surround Yourself with Positivity – Be with people who uplift and encourage you. ✔ Take Small Steps Every Day – Progress isn’t always huge leaps; even small movements count.

The Power of Forward Motion

When you keep moving forward, you shift your mindset. You become more focused on growth rather than pain, more centered on opportunities rather than losses. The road ahead may not always be easy, but every step forward is a step away from the things that no longer serve you.

No Need to Look Back

Keep moving forward, and you will never have a reason to look back. Not because the past doesn’t matter, but because the future holds so much more for you. Walk boldly into it—you are stronger than you think, and your best days are ahead.

You Can Always Begin Again

No Matter How Hard the Past Is, You Can Always Begin Again

Life has a way of throwing us into storms we never saw coming. Painful moments, regrets, and heartbreak can make us feel like we are stuck—trapped in a cycle of the past. But here’s the beautiful truth: no matter how hard the past has been, you can always begin again.

Starting over isn’t about erasing what happened; it’s about choosing to move forward despite it. The past may have shaped you, but it doesn’t define you. Every sunrise brings new mercies, every breath is an opportunity to rewrite your story, and every step forward is proof that you are stronger than what tried to break you.

Maybe your past holds trauma, mistakes, or loss. Maybe you carry the weight of things you wish had been different. But beginning again isn’t about forgetting—it’s about healing. It’s about learning to give yourself the same grace you would offer someone else.

The most powerful thing you can do is believe in the possibility of renewal. It doesn’t have to be a grand, dramatic reinvention. Sometimes, beginning again looks like getting out of bed, making one small change, or allowing yourself to dream again. It looks like choosing hope, even when it feels impossible.

You are not your past. Remember, you are not your mistakes. You are a person capable of growth, love, and new beginnings. The past may be behind you, but your future is waiting—with open arms, ready for you to step into the next chapter.

So take a deep breath. Let go of the weight you no longer need to carry. And begin again.
